Talavera Infant School

Curriculum

The curriculum covers all learning activities that take place within the school, academic, social, physical, spiritual and moral.  Every child is entitles to a broad and balanced curriculum.

All pupils are entitled to equality of opportunity irrespective of gender, race or ability.  Talavera Infant School is committed to promoting this entitlement, and we have adopted Hampshire's Equal Opportunities Policy.

Teachers use the National Curriculum documents together with the school's own policy documents, Hampshire’s 'Statement of Policy on the School Curriculum' and their knowledge of each child, to plan lessons.  Programmes of work are designed to ensure progression and continuity across each year group.

In our school we use a variety of schemes to support the children's learning these include;

Pen Pals for handwriting

Letters and Sounds Phonics

Read Write Inc Phonics

No Nonsense Spelling Year 2

Teachers use a variety of methods including:

  • Whole class teaching
  • Group work
  • Individual work
  • Work focused on an individual subject
  • Topic work

The particular method used will reflect the teaching activity and the children involved.  Teachers regularly assess children's work to ensure the curriculum is appropriate and inform future planning.
